The groundwater reservoir in the area and rivers Váh and Danube were polluted by only mechanical treated effluent of the Komarno WWTP.

The municipality Komarno located in the southwest part of Slovakia received from the European Union (through ISPA-Programme) the financial support for rehabilitation and extension of the wastewater disposal system.

• Rehabilitation and extention of the existing WWTP Komarno to 43.000 P.E. by adding the biological treatment and sludge treatment
• Extension of the sewer system to Nova Straz
• Construction of the new sewers (8,7 km) including pumping stations and house connections
• Construction of retention tanks
• Rehabilitation of 3,9 km long combined sewers in the city by the cured in place pipe system (trenchless rehabilitation)
